Two California firefighters were rescued after they were briefly trapped by burning debris that came crashing down on them as they were battling a house blaze early Tuesday.
Heartland crews responded to a fire that broke out at a two-story home at about 3 a.m. in El Cajon, KGTV-TV reports. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, flames had consumed the house and had reached about 50 feet high.
While crews doused the blaze, a section of the structure collapsed, trapping two firefighters who were unable to get out of the way. The other firefighters then worked quickly to pull their colleagues from the still burning debris.
The extent of the firefighters' injuries was not known. One of the firefighters was taken to the hospital, according to KGTV.
